Introduction

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming more popular, bringing opportunities and challenges to various industry. Experts predict that AI will bring impactful changes to digital entertainment industry, including animation sector. As of today, how AI will impact animation production is yet to be tested. Applying AI to animation requires technical know-how and proper set up, and many trials and errors, pioneering / first movers may benefit more in the ART-Tech competition. Animation companies are small-in-scale and generally lack of resources and may not be strong in technical knowhow in AI adoption.

Scheme Purpose

This project is to subsidize and assist selected companies to create animation content with assistance of AI to explore the full potential of AI application to animation sector. Key learnings of participants will be disseminated so that industry practitioners can benchmark on the best practices learnt during the process. The portfolio work will be showcased in HK and promoted overseas, such as in Annecy Festival, to showcase the creativity and technical capabilities of HK’s digital entertainment companies.

Key Features

• Selected company will be granted a maximum subsidy of $850,000 to work on a 15-20 minutes long animation work assisted by AI.
• Mentoring program to help participating companies on AI-assisted animation production.
• Receive free allocation of 2 interns to assist in using AI application tools to create animations.
• Organize promotional events to promote the above-mentioned animation to the industry and the public.
• Receive a series of trainings on intellectual property created using AI and its legal risks, latest AI tools and trends related to animation production
• Receive a 2-days practical pitching workshop
• Participate in the Annecy Festival 2024 to showcase the creativity and technical capabilities of Hong Kong’s digital entertainment companies.
• An experience sharing seminar cum Premiere to showcase the 6 short animations produced with the assistance of AI and share the lessons learnt in project to the industry
